ABOUT RACHEL

Rachel Pesek has spent her career teaching students to write well. She taught University Writing at Columbia University for two years while pursuing her Ph.D. in literature, and she has tutored writing since 2009, including at the Columbia and UNC Writing Centers and as a private tutor for The Princeton Review. She holds a master’s degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania and bachelor’s degrees in English and business from UNC-Chapel Hill, and she completed Columbia Teachers College’s College Advising program.

She founded College Essay Tutors to help students with the writing that matters most to their futures. Her specialty is the college application essay, and she has guided hundreds of students through the college application process. She also works with students on summer program applications, high school and college writing assignments, and the occasional surprise (once, a preschool application essay).

Her approach is collaborative. Through brainstorming sessions and focused revision, she helps each student find a story that’s truly theirs and tell it in their own voice. Then she polishes every line until it’s ready to send. At a time when colleges are wary of essays that sound generic or AI-written, that authenticity matters more than ever.
